A truly unique run: Wings for Life World Run Killarney

Wings for Life World Run

God, these races and runs really do come thick and fast now summer is on the horizon. Well, anyway this one looks a real good’un. The Wings for Life World Run is a very ambitious event that is taking place all over the world at the same time. On the 4th May, runners in 34 different countries around the world will start the run at the same time so, in the words of the press release, “the world can come together and run as one”. Smashing. All the proceeds raised from the run will go to the Wings for Life foundation which helps people with spinal cord injuries.

Well Kerry has been chosen as the Irish stage and the run will start off at the entrance to the Demesne (Across the road from the Cathedral) and heading in the direction of Killorglin. How far the runners run is totally up to themselves; they can set a personal goal of 5km, 10km or even a half or full marathon. It’s totally up to them. In fact you can still sign up if you feel like it. I’ll post the link at the bottom of this page.

If you feel you’re adept at spectating then fear not for it promises to be a cracking day out either way. There’ll be loads of celebrities in attendance including rugby stars Simon Zebo and JJ Hanrahan, former Kerry GAA legends Seamus Moynihan and Ger Power, current Dublin hotshot Bernard Brogan, TV presenter Sile Seoige and model and TV presenter Alison Canavan.

So if you feel you’d like  a good run, or a bit of craic watching some other poor bugger do it or you just want to see some celebs, head over to the Wings for Life World Run where you could witness a truly unique run in action.
