Seachtain na Gaeilge 2014

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Conas atá tú? An bhfuil cúpla focail agat?

Lost? You probably are. Irish people’s grasp of the Irish language is up there with their grasp of Mandarin Chinese, unfortunately. But now until St Patrick’s Day (Or Lá Féile Pádraig in Irish)  it’s Seachtain na Gaeilge, a two-week-and-a-bit nationwide language and culture festival designed to get people more interested in the Irish language. It’s had great success in the past and is enjoying even more popularity this year.

It kicked off with an open-air concert here in Killarney last weekend and there’s loads more events being held around the county and country for you to enjoy. You can check the full list (In English or, if you’re feeling brave, Irish) right here – http://snag.ie/en/events/upcoming-events/.

Of course, if you’d like to see the Irish language in its natural habitat then a day out to The Gaeltacht in West Kerry is strongly advised. Head to Dún Chaoin or Muiríoch and immerse yourself in this marvelous, Gaelic environment. Also, there’ll be art displays and painting dotted around shop windows in Killarney designed by the children of the town celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge so keep an eye out for them.

Bain sult agus spraoi as an Seachtain!
