Kerry Tattoo Convention
Running concurrently with the BikeFest, the Kerry International Tattoo Convention will be held in the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney this June bank holiday weekend. Something tells me that wasn’t an accident. Anyway, the convention is in its second year and is sure to be a Mecca for tattoo enthusiasts everywhere as a veritable feast of some of Ireland’s and the world’s most exciting tattoo artists arrive in Killarney to show off their tats and what not.
The convention starts on at 2pm Friday the 30th of May and will run until Sunday the 1st of June. There will be a number of renowned tattoo artists from across Ireland and the world displaying their designs and creations and there will also be a number of special guests giving talks and lessons. These special guests include Glenn Flesjaa of the Iron Shield Tattoo studio in Norway. Iron Shield are famous for their custom designs so a tattoo from them is one sure to be unique. Also visiting is Romio Shrestha who is a “modern modern master of Indo-Nepali-Tibetan Buddhist Traditions of enlightenment art”. Bit of a mouthful that. But Shrestha is a really fantastic artist whose work has been displayed in The British Museum, The Victoria Albert Museum and the American Museum of Natural History New York as well as many, many other galleries, museums and private collections.
There’ll be loads of other tattoo artists coming from places as disparate as Chile, Brazil, Germany, Denmark and many others. In addition to all that tattooing there’ll be live music and DJ sets throughout the weekend. The event is being hosted by Pachamama Tattoo studio which is on College Street in Killarney town. If you’re attending the BikeFest make sure you wander over to the convention on one of the days as it looks like it could be a cracking event. Tickets are €10 for a one day ticket and €25 for a weekend pass. For more information check out http://www.kerrytattooconvention.ie/.
