Jimmy Crowley and Stokers Lodge Reunion Concert

Jimmy Crowley and Stokers Lodge Reunion Concert

It’s been three long decades since one of Ireland’s most popular and successful folk bands, Jimmy Crowley and Stokers Lodge, disbanded. With their distinct Cork accents and raucous traditional music they were one of the 70s premier folk bands. By the time they broke up they had recorded only two albums but The Boys of Fairhill and Camphouse Ballads are today both considered Irish classics. But now they’re back. And the Killarney is playing host to a special reunion concert.

The lead singer Jimmy Crowley is more than just a musician; he effortlessly fuses music and storytelling to great effect. The band were heralded for their unique, parochial style and dedication to their home city of Cork. They added a new twist to traditional Cork songs like Do You Want Your Old Lobby Washed Down. The band are not the the spry, young men who ruled Ireland and toured America but, if they’re recent performances in Cork are anything to go by, they’ve still got it.

The concert is taking place on Friday the 16th of March at the Schoolhouse in Muckross which is a very well-chosen and intimate venue. Tickets are priced at a very reasonable €18 and you can buy them by ringing 064 6630804 or you can order them online right here. You can check out Jimmy Crowley’s website here with more information on the band and their history. And, to get you in the mood, here’s a video of one of their classic performances. At the Cork Opera House in 1979.
