Jesus Christ Superstar comes to Killarney
Jesus Christ Superstar comes to Killarney
They’ve entertained and enthralled locals and visitors alike for almost three decades now and Killarney Musical Society are back for 2014 hoping to be even better. In the past they’ve tackled such well-renowned musicals such as Oliver, The Wiz, My Fair Lady and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and this year sees them bring Jesus Christ Superstar to the town.
The musical, as you may know, is a rock opera based on the last week of Jesus’ life; from preparing his disciples for the trip to Jerusalem for Passover to his crucifixion on Mount Calvary. It was first performed in 1971 and the music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics written by Tim Rice.
Killarney Musical Society have actually performed this play in the past – way back in 1996 – and they say that that year was one of their most memorable performances. They’re looking to top that this year and with some of the local talent available in the town only a fool would bet against them.
The show will run for three nights from the 1st to the 3rd of April and each show will kick off at 8pm sharp. The venue is the INEC. You can purchase tickets from the INEC box office and they are priced at €20 for adults and €15 for children/students.
