History of Hurling

Are you visiting Ireland from another country and want to acquaint yourself with some Irish culture? Or are you Irish and want to learn more about the country you inhabit? Whatever the story, this day-long seminar could be just the event for you. A History of Hurling, Our National Game is being held in The Schoolhouse in Muckross on Saturday the 26th April. The aim of the event is to promote the game of Hurling and showcase it’s colourful and varied history.

There will be a number of star names attending who’ll be giving lectures and speeches. Sean Kelly, former president of the GAA, Tomás Mulcahy, former Cork hurler and winner of 3 All-Ireland Senior Championships in the 80s, Eddie Butler, former hurler and gaelic footballer with Tipperary and manager of Laois senior and Tipperary minor teams, Seamus J. King, renowned sports journalist and Eddie Keher, generally regarded to be one of the greatest hurlers of all time and winner of 6 All-Ireland senior championships in the 60s and 70s with Kilkenny will all be in attendance. In addition, the irrepressible Micháel Ó’Muircheartaigh, the “Voice of the GAA”, will be MC for the event.

The topics covered will include; The history of hurling, Hurling as it is today and Hurling in the future and its importance as our national game.
