Halloween in Killarney
With the brown leaves and the brisk winds, autumn is most certainly upon us and with it comes Halloween ; every teenage yob’s favourite holiday. If you’ve got kids and you’re heading to Halloween in Killarney for a nice, peaceful mid-term break then you’ll want something to do that doesn’t involve eggs, toilet roll or water balloons, right? Right. Well read on so.
Halloween in Killarney
First up, there’s the Oireachtas na Samhna which is an arts festival celebrating Irish culture that is being held in the INEC from the 31st October to the 3rd of November. It’s a big festival and it’s held in a different town every year so Killarney getting the nod for 2013 is quite a plus.
The aim of the festival is to promote traditional Irish arts and modern Irish literature as well as, of course, encouraging people to add cupla focail to their every day speech. There’ll be drama, storytelling, music performances, dancing and much more. There’ll even be a Club na Feile where musicians will play into the small hours of the morning. It sounds like it’ll be an absolute blast so if you’re interested head over to http://www.antoireachtas.ie/baile.php for more information.
There’ll be lots on around town the night of Halloween and if your kids are hankering for a bit of trick or treating then your best bet would be nearby Woodlawn. Woodlawn is down the road from the Killarney Holiday Village and has lots of houses and is usually very safe. Another suggestion, maybe if your kids are a bit older, would be a late-night walk through Killarney National Park. I’ve done it before and Muckross Abbey is particularly spooky. Happy hunting!
