Fleadh Cheol na Mumhan 2014
If you’re interested in Irish music, dance and culture and also interested in not breaking the bank then you are in luck because this July Killarney will be playing host to the 2014 Fleadh Ceol na Mumhain. To those not familiar with the Irish language, that translates to Music Festival of Munster. The Fleadh is being organised by 5 local branches, Kilcummin, Fossa Two Mile, Glenflesk, Killarney and Sliabh Luachra and will be held over seven days between Monday the 14th of July and Sunday the 20th.
It’ll be a veritable feast of traditional Irish culture and will be perfect for locals and visitors alike as there will be something for everyone to enjoy. You can expect events as varied live street music, trad discos, story telling, history lectures and, of course, céilís. It’ll be a tasty mix of education and entertainment and you might even learn something in between all of the singing and dancing! The classes, lectures and workshops will be held in different locations around the town including schools like St Brendan’s and Killarney Community College while the live music will be in places like the Gleneagle Hotel and Malton Hotel. For a full list of events and their times and locations check out this page here.
Fleadh Ceol na Mumhain will be perfect for anyone with even a vague interest in traditional Irish culture and music. It’s also perfect for those not exactly flush with cash at the minute. And if the good weather holds the street music should be fantastic fun. So check out their website here and wing your way down to Killarney this July 14th for some ceol and craic!
