Easter in Kerry

Easter in Kerry

So now that you have a fair idea of some of the events Killarney will be hosting this year, let’s move onto some events flung more further afield. Killarney isn’t the only town in Kerry with a packed Easter schedule and, if some of our events don’t whet your appetite, then we should check out what other towns have planned for this bank holiday weekend.

In Kenmare this Wednesday there is a very intriguing musical show being hosted by the Carnegie Arts Centre. It is called From Darkness Into Light and it is described as being a “musical journey through the four seasons based on Celtic mythology and local folklore”. Whatever could they mean? Well if it takes your fancy then The Carnegie Arts Centre in Kenmare at 8pm Wednesday the 16th April is the place to be. Tickets are a very reasonable €10.

In Tralee, Kerry’s largest town, The Tír na nÓg Children’s Festival is in full swing and is cranking it up a gear for this bank holiday weekend. There’s genuinely loads on including arts and crafts, bouncy castles, face painting, dancing, live music and quizzes. If you’ve got a kids a day trip here on Friday, Saturday or Sunday is very much recommended. For more information check out http://tralee.ie/events-list/tir-na-nog-childrens-festival-2014.

In Dingle, well, near Dingle I should say, the Cloghane Brandon Hillwalking and Music Festival is taking place. This one is definitely for the more adventurous among us. This one is a great opportunity to soak in West Kerry’s beautiful scenery. The festival kicks off on Saturday and you have a choice between two walks – one difficult and one easy. There’ll also be live music that evening with up and coming band Keywest performing in the Cloghane Marquee. It’s the same craic on Sunday with an easy and difficult walk to choose from and renowned Irish folk rock group Scullion will be performing in the local community hall. If you’re interested  you can ring 066 7138137 to register and to get more information. You have until Friday to register..
