Aslan return to Killarney
They’ve been one of Ireland’s greatest rock bands for almost 30 years now and Aslan are returning to Killarney this July for one night only. This is an especially poignant gig as it will be Aslan’s only show outside of Dublin this year. In March 2013, their inimitable lead singer Christy Dignam was diagnosed with cancer and the band were put on a temporary hiatus. He has responded well to treatment however and in May the band played two sell-out concerts in the Olympia in Dublin as a sort of return. They wanted to cater for their fans outside of Dublin too however and they’ve chosen the INEC Killarney as their venue for their only other gig this summer.
For those of you who don’t know who Aslan are they first broke into the Irish music scene in the mid-80s with a string of hits beginning with their smash hit debut single This Is. They were billed as the new U2 and while they may not have enjoyed the same international success as their fellow Northsiders, Aslan have always maintained a very large and loyal fanbase in Ireland. Their most famous hit would be Crazy World which is a bona fide Irish classic.
It’s going to be a very poignant and emotional evening as no one really knows when Aslan will perform again after this show. The show is taking place on Saturday the 26th July and tickets are priced at €25 seated. The doors open at 8pm and show will begin with support from Red Empire at 9pm. If you’re not convinced give Crazy World another listen and see if you can resist Christy and his charms!
